Aaron McLain

L.A. native Aaron McLain counts Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eddie Van Halen as the legends most influential on his playing. He has traveled the world playing guitar for Marc Anthony, Tears for Fears singer Oleta Adams, Patti LaBelle and Ronnie Laws, among others. He can currently be seen lending his guitar pyrotechnics to the Air Supply tour.

When he was 12, he played his first gig at a Boy Scouts ceremony with his brother on bass, covering a couple of Van Halen tunes. After graduating high school, he enrolled in the famed Dick Grove School of Music, where he learned the ins-and-outs of what it would take to make a living as a musician. He quickly went on to became a sought-after session guitarist playing with much more experienced colleagues.

Although he has played for 20,000 in Madison Square Garden with Marc Anthony, Aaron McLain is every bit as intense in front of a crowd of 100 at one of his local club gigs. “He lets me do my own thing and not many people would,” he says, of the Latin star. “I’ve been blessed to play with some people with real talent, who don’t hide behind any gimmicks.” - from Hits Magazine by Roy Trakin.

Bhi Bhiman

"What a voice Bhi Bhiman has: full-bodied and brawny but delicate” - The New York Times

“There’s a Flight of the Conchords-style mischief to Bhiman’s writing: a mix of folk oddities, social outrages and sticky black humour” - Drowned in Sound

Bhi Bhiman is an American singer/songwriter. His musical style has drawn a diverse range of comparisons from Rodriguez and Woody Guthrie to Nina Simone and Bill Withers. An accomplished guitarist and clever lyricist, it is Bhiman’s unique voice that truly sets him apart. The Washington Post’s Bill Friskics-Warren has said, “what strikes you first about Bhi Bhiman’s music is his voice — a keening, gender-neutral yawp that’s as earthy as it is ethereal, as puckish as it is wise."

Since the release of his debut album in 2012, Bhiman has toured extensively with artists as diverse as the comparisons he evokes; from Chris Cornell to the Carolina Chocolate drops. He's performed on the stages of Bonnaroo and Outside Lands and earned a standing ovation at Carnegie Hall. A performance Rolling Stone called "the most memorable performance of the night, his vocals giving off a haunted air that left the crowd speechless." Behind the scenes, Bhi has enjoyed writing for other artists like Stax Legend William Bell and hip hop group The Coup.

In May, Bhiman released his follow-up LP, Rhythm & Reason, produced by Sam Kassirer (Lake Street Dive, Josh Ritter). The 10 song album reveals more of his soul and R&B influences yet maintains the singer/songwriter tradition for which Bhiman is known.

Buddy Woodward

Americana music veteran BUDDY WOODWARD is a founding member of THE DIXIE BEE-LINERS, who are currently hard at work on their third album, tentatively titled "Grooveshack." From their humble beginnings as an urban bluegrass band, the Bee-Liners have been known to play a wide variety of acoustic music over their 10 year career, liberally cherry-picking influence from traditional bluegrass, newgrass, and old-time string band music, as well as west-coast country, country rock, 60's British invasion, surf, Celtic, rhythm & blues, punk, ska, and English folk-rock bands. In mid-2012 the band revealed in an interview that they were further evolving their sound, and expanding their lineup to include drums and electric instrumentation.

"We go from delicate acoustic picking to full out crunch, often in the same song, so I needed an amp that could handle both ends of the dynamic spectrum with ease," commented Buddy on the band's new direction. "It's obvious VHT put a lot of thought into the features and tube options, and are doing things that I expect from a small boutique builder. I've spent a lot more on guitar amplifiers and gotten a lot less than what the 12/20 RT Combo delivers."

A gifted songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Buddy plays the mandolin, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, bass, bouzouki, dojo, mountain dulcimer, and even drums, as well as handling production chores for the Bee-Liners, and others. He was a founding member of seminal 90's alt.country whiz kids THE GHOST ROCKETS, and NYC honkytonkers BUDDY WOODWARD & THE NITRO EXPRESS, and was a featured performer on the long running weekly Lower East Side fixture, Greg Garing's Alphabet City Opry, as well as having shared stages with John Starling, Steve Earle, Rosie Flores, Jim Lauderdale, The Coal Porters, Laura Cantrell, Bill Keith, Beat Rodeo, Sid Griffin, Smalltown Parade, The Jet Set, and The Chelsea Mountain Jamboree, among many others.

Buddy plays a Special 12/20RT Combo and a V-Drive pedal.

Robert Ellis

robert-ellis

Robert Ellis is the kind of songwriter who only comes along once in a great while. With his first two albums, a promise was made. With his new record, The Lights from the Chemical Plant, that promise has been delivered and fully realized. The music, like the artist, refuses to accept the confines of a box, and burns white-hot from the inside out. But what seems even more striking about this record, this musician, even at a first glance, is that feeling of unyielding authenticity. With every remarkable cut, with every twist and turn, Robert’s life and his experience, shine through. His days growing up in a small industrial town in Texas, his move to Houston, and now as a 24-year-old man, when not on the road performing around the world, living with his wife in Nashville. The Lights from the Chemical Plant, produced with great care and precision by Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Kings of Leon, Norah Jones), and recorded at Eric Masse’s Casino studio in East Nashville for New West Records, is an album that has a way of grabbing you by the hand and pulling you in so that it can play with your soul. Alive with memories and innovation, you become absorbed in the world Robert paints with his smoky lyrics, his hypnotic voice, and his masterful work on the guitar. But then something happens. Something new. Something special. And it begins with the very song for which the album is named, “Chemical Plant.” You realize that Robert’s building layer upon layer of different sounds from different places and different times. A synthesis of sounds and textures that pick you up and pull you in even deeper.

R&B, bossa nova, fusion, free jazz – from the rousing beat of “Good Intentions” to the floor stomping bluegrass anthem “Sing Along,” you’ve bought your ticket and you’re in for the ride. And so it goes, the floodgates standing wide open. The quiet, unexpected feel of a jazz guitar in perfect union with a steel guitar in the ballad, “Steady as the Rising Sun.” And so it goes. The soulful wobble of a saxophone in “Bottle of Wine,” and the dreamy pedal steel that draws you into “TV Song.” These are songs about love gained, about love lost, about growing up in a place where nobody stands too tall for fear of being knocked down (“Sing Along”). These are songs about lives broken, lives healed, and moving on. As if that weren’t enough, Robert gives us his interpretation of Paul Simon’s classic, “Still Crazy After All These Years,” which is pure elegance, cut against the song “Only Lies” with its quiet pulse, its dusky blue lyrics, and the story of a man trying to help a friend who refuses to believe that her husband is cheating on her...

Only lies can comfort you,

Only lies will see you through.

Just because a thing’s convenient,

That doesn’t make it true.

Only lies can comfort you.

Ellis’ growth as a man and musician is clear on The Lights From The Chemical Plant.  And while some may call it a musical departure from his past, The Houston Chronicle best explains: “Ellis doesn't place limitations on his music.  Any perceived departure is just part of an ongoing creative journey.”

– Robert Ellis, not the musician, but the author of the Los Angeles Times bestseller, City of Fire.

DP Holmes

DP Holmes is a founding member of the aggressively experimental New York based band Dub Trio. As a session guitarist he's recorded and performed with a diverse collection of artists including Lady Gaga, Snoop Dog, Mike Patton, Young Buck, Common, Z Trip, Simply Red, DJ Hi Tek, Trik Daddy, Keri Hilson, Macy Gray, Lloyd Banks and Producer Joel Hamilton. With Dub Trio DP has released four albums (Exploring The Dangers Of, Another Sound Is Dying, New Heavy, and Cool Out and Coexist - released on the ROIR and Ipecac labels), and toured the world many times over. The band's unhinged mix of instrumental metal, reggae and dub, with electronic experimentation has created a genre unto itself. Revered by the band's strong fan base and fellow musicians alike, the intuitive connection between the band members and the power and intensity of their playing makes every Dub Trio performance an awe inspiring event.

Born in Ontario, Canada DP began playing guitar at age 8, and formed his first band with his brother at age 9. A former student of The Berklee College of Music, DP is known for creating original and innovative guitar melodies and soundscapes. He has forged a unique identity as a session player who is both versatile in his ability to assume almost all popular styles, as well as a creative writer who stretches the bounds of his instrument to the farthest reaches of the imagination. - from matisyahuworld.com

Jeff Klein

At the age of 18, Klein moved to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music. In 1999, he moved to Austin, Texas and released his first album, You'll Never Get to Heaven If You Break My Heart. Signed to influential record label One Little Indian, Klein released two more albums, Everybody Loves a Winner, featuring Patty Griffin, Matthew Ryan, Jon Dee Graham and Johnny Goudie in 2002, and The Hustler, featuring guests Ani Difranco and Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum in 2005. He has also worked with Greg Dulli and The Twilight Singers, and toured as part of The Gutter Twins.

Klein's current incarnation is as the focal point of Austin's My Jerusalem, who have just released their second full-length, Preachers. The new record leads the listener on a cinematic journey through a reckless, jagged landscape of Raymond Carver-esque stories, fueled by Klein’s persuasive baritone, ominous guitars, dream-like keyboards and a deep rhythmic pulse. Recorded in under three weeks by Spoon drummer Jim Eno (Heartless Bastards, Polica, Black Joe Lewis) at his Public Hi-Fi studio, Preachers is the first My Jerusalem album genuinely made by a band, not just performed by a group of musicians. Pushing aside hard drives and laptops to make way for analog tape machines and vintage keyboards, what Klein describes as the “Post-Modern Southern Gothic Soul” sounds of Preachers were born from organic, live performances Eno carefully captured and tweaked. - from thisismyjerusalem.com/band
